I'm heading off to school pretty soon, and am going to purchase a computer. I've been thinking about getting an Apple PowerBook G4, since Apples are pretty much the standard in editing w/ digital. Wise choice? Any suggestions? Feedback would be much appreciated, thanks.

you won't regret it. although personally i've never got to grips with imovie (perhaps it's too simple), you can't go wrong with Final Cut.
i've had a PB 12" for 2.5 years and even managed to cut my feature with it.
don't expect to play the latest games on it though.

Watch out for the intel Macbook Pro.
Reckon you could play games on that.
Only prob is FCP don't work on it yet- should be sorted by March mind or whenever NAB is.
Use a PB G4 myself 15", one of the best bits of kit I ever got.

I wouldn't buy right now.
It is stupid to buy a G4 Powerbook when Apple will be off of PPC within the year. They will have FCP as a Universal Binary in the next few months I am sure. NAB more than likely....
Sit tight and wait it out.
Good Luck

agreed, if you can wait until march when the universal binaries for FCP are released, then wait and get an intel based Mac for the increased performance.
if you can't wait, take some comfort in the fact that Apple will be supporting PPC binaries for a few years yet (at least 5 i think) so a G4 is still far from obsolete.
of course, if iMovie does enough for you then that is already a universal binary and the MacBook Pro is shipping soon ...

"FCP binaries," "PPC," "Universal binaries," "NAB;" I've got to say, i'm lost. Haha, when it comes to computer-related things of this calibur, i'm computer illiterate. I'll try and do more research on what you all are talking about; but I really appreciate all the feedback you've given me. Much thanks.

Basically, Mac are changing their chip supplier to Intel. These guys did a race between the old and new. New wins hands down.

Boy, the new beat out the old, hands-down. Thanks for sharing that.
So Macs are already being produced with the Intel chip. This is good. Maybe I can make this purchase sooner than i'd expected.
